St Catherine PC searching for lands to construct new Ewarton cemetery
The St. Catherine Parish Council in now on a search for lands to construct a new cemetery for Ewarton in the parish.
Councillor for the Ewarton Division, Beverly Jobson-Grant, says funding is being sought to have the existing cemetery fenced.
She pointed out that the existing cemetery at Ewarton is almost filled to capacity, noting that a number of burials have been held only metres from the roadway.
She said if lands are not found soon, there could be a space problem for burials planned for the cemetery.
During a visit to the cemetery RJR News observed that burials were taking place in areas where persons were buried over forty years ago.
It was noted that this could pose a health problem
Meanwhile, Mrs. Jobson-Grant also said the Council will be seeking to have the cemetery bushed and fully maintained.
