Popular Medical practitioner remains in police custody

06:17am | Sat, March 31, 2012

Up to late Friday, a popular medical practitioner  remained in Police custody, and was being questioned by personnel from the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, (CISOCA).

The Kingston-based doctor was arrested on Friday by CISOCA detectives who are probing a suspected case of procurement of abortion.

The Police told our news centre that based on the information they have so far, the doctor may have done the procedure on a teenaged girl, who later experienced complications.

A Police source told our news centre that the girl went through the procedure, but started experiencing complications afterwards.

She was taken to a Hospital and treated, but the Police started probing the matter.
Their investigations led them to the medical practitioner, who was then taken into custody.

The Police source told RJR news that based on the seriousness of these allegations, it is unlikely that he will receive bail before next week.

The source added that the doctor is to face the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate's Court for sentencing in another matter.
