Higher meat prices coming
05:57pm | Wed, August 22, 2012
Jamaicans could start to see gradual increases in the price of meat in the next few weeks, as higher priced animal feeds start to reflect in the production costs of meat.
General Manager of the Jamaica Flour Mills Derick Nembhard says he hiked the price of wheat midlings which is used to produce animal feed by 20 percent on Monday.
And that has already resulted in increases in the price of animal feed.
That adds to the pressure meat prices are already under from drought induced higher priced corn in the United States.
