Tax Administration Jamaica, TAJ, is advising that the guest room accommodation tax is now in effect.
In keeping with the announcement by the Finance Minister in June 6 the tax was imposed on Saturday, September 1.
This means that operators of hotels, bed and breakfast villas and apartments, motels, guest houses as well as resort cottages are required to collect and pay over the tax whether or not they are licensed under the Tourist Board Act.
Diplomats on official assignments are exempt from paying the tax.
The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, JHTA, says it's business as usual even though the room tax is now in effect.
The Association says its concerns regarding the tax have been ironed out by the Government.
