Despite producing a national record 2mins 28. 77 seconds to win her heat, Alia Atkinson did not progress to the semi-finals of the women's 200 meters breaststroke at the London Olympic games.
Atkinson bettered the previous she held at 2:29.00 to end with the 27th fastest time of 34 competitors topped by reigning Olympic champion Rebecca Soni of the united states who clocked 2mins 21.40.
The 23 year old Atkinson who placed 4th in the 100 meters breaststroke final on Monday will next contest the heats of the 50 meters freestyle set for Friday at 4 a.m.
